Incwadi with Vuyo Sotashe & Chris Pattishall

Discover why the GRAMMY®-nominated Palaver Strings is hailed as one of New England’s most innovative and dynamic chamber ensembles. Featuring acclaimed jazz vocalist Vuyo Sotashe and Grammy-nominated pianist Chris Pattishall, Incwadi celebrates the rich musical heritage of Sotashe’s home country, South Africa. Incwadi-- which means "book," or in this case, "collection of songs," in Zulu--is a program including traditional folk songs in Zulu, Sepedi, and Xhosa, choral works by Michael Moreane and Bheki Mseleku, and originals by Vuyo Sotashe, all presented in fresh arrangements for voice, piano, and strings by Chris Pattishall. "Incwadi" explores connections between American jazz, South African traditional music, and European classical music, moving fluidly between traditions in a spirit of exploration and joy. 

Since 2014, this musician-led collective has shattered the traditional "orchestra" mold, replacing the rigid podium with a collaborative, democratic spirit that brings raw energy and fresh perspectives to every performance. From bold world premieres to timeless classics, their repertoire features world-renowned collaborators. The ensemble’s elite artistry has been showcased at world-class venues such as Carnegie Hall and Tanglewood. More than just a concert, a Palaver performance is a mission-driven experience. Gravity and Other Myths: Ten Thousand Hours

Everybody is a master of something. Blink, step, jump, balance, flip, fly. This is an ode to the countless hours needed to achieve great things. A tribute to the dedication required to realize our physical ambitions. An acknowledgement of the backstory, often more spectacular than the finished product. Eight acrobats and one musician investigate physical skill: how we obtain it, how we perfect it, and how it can transform our lives. Through highlighting the nuance of high-level acrobatics, audiences experience a heightened appreciation of the countless hours required to master the skills they are witnessing. Set to a driving, dynamic, and intricate musical score using percussion/drums live on-stage, Ten Thousand Hours is a revelry of the distinct physical language that defines GOM and a celebration of the pursuit of mastery. Well Being Concert: Lisa Fischer & Clay Ross

Sweet By & By brings together vocalist Lisa Fischer and guitarist Clay Ross, both multiple Grammy Award winners, for an intimate program of American spirituals, folk hymns, and songs of comfort. Stripped down to voice and guitar, these songs slow the room down: melodies carried gently, harmonies left open, and silences given space to breathe. Fischer’s voice moves from a whisper to soaring heights with remarkable tenderness, while Ross’s guitar draws from the deep roots of American folk traditions. Together, they invite listeners into music as reflection, where familiar songs become pathways to stillness, memory, and renewal. It feels less like a concert than a shared moment of calm.
 
Celebrated globally for her Grammy Award-winning solo hit “How Can I Ease the Pain” and her prominent role in the Oscar-winning documentary Twenty Feet From Stardom. She spent decades as a highly sought-after background singer for music royalty like Luther Vandross, The Rolling Stones, and Sting.
 
Clay Ross is a celebrated guitarist, vocalist, and composer deeply rooted in American roots and jazz traditions. He is a founding member of the jazz group Ranky Tanky.

Craig Thatcher & His Band: A Celebration of Eric Clapton's Music

To anyone familiar with Craig Thatcher’s guitar artistry, his deep connection to Eric Clapton is no secret. The spark was first ignited when a young Craig heard Clapton’s groundbreaking work on the iconic album, John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton. Clapton’s innovative blues phrasing, driven by the now-legendary pairing of a Gibson Les Paul and a cranked Marshall combo amp, redefined Craig’s approach to the instrument.

Audiences were treated to Craig’s immense talent at the hugely popular acoustic presentation of ‘An Evening with Martin Guitar’ this season. Now, we’re excited for his return with the Craig Thatcher Band for an Eric Clapton retrospective on Friday, May 21 at 7:30pm. 

Rather than delivering rigid, note-for-note copies, the band captures the essential spirit, tone, and feel of Clapton’s vast catalog—spanning from the Yardbirds, CREAM, Blind Faith, and Derek and the Dominos, to his iconic solo work from the 70s, 80s, and beyond—infused with the Craig Thatcher Band’s collective energy and style. Join us!

This concert takes the place of Neil Berg’s 50 Years of Rock N’ Roll which was originally scheduled for this date.
