Great voices share the drama and the passion of classic opera with Mozart's comic masterpiece, Le Nozze di Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro), where love, intrigue, and politics hilariously collide on the eve of Figaro and Susanna's wedding. Join the quick-witted barber Figaro and his bride-to-be Susanna as they navigate a whirlwind 24-hours filled with mishaps and mischief. The Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia trains young artists with tremendous potential as international opera soloists. What did The Marriage of Figaro mean to its initial audience in Vienna in 1786? And what might this perennially popular opera, penned by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Lorenzo Da Ponte, mean to us today? Join us for a short pre-concert talk, featuring Lehigh professor Monica A. Hershberger, a music historian whose research centers on the history of opera in the United States, who will delve into these questions and more.
