There are only a handful of figures in music history who could call themselves a composer, conductor, and virtuoso performer...and perhaps only one who could add knight and world-class fencer to their fame. Joseph Bologne, more frequently called The Chevalier de Saint-Georges, was appointed to the Royal Guard of King Louis XVI after defeating a renowned fencing master at the age of 16. The dexterity, skill, and daring he displayed as a swordsman found equal home in his violin playing and composing.
